Senior Phone Plans

Choosing a cell phone plan for seniors can be both confusing and demanding.  Even Jitterbug, who specializes in making using a cell phone easy for seniors with little or no technological know-how has a variety of plans designed to meet almost nay senior’s need and budget.  Of course, having so many options certainly can make choosing harder.

Before even looking over the plans offered by Jitterbug, it is important to know exactly what you want from your cell phone, and how you plan to use it.  Ask yourself a few basic questions, then look at the different plans available:

  1. How much do I plan to use my new Jitterbug cell phone?  For emergencies only? To stay in touch with friends and family? For long distance? Local calls?
  2. How much can I afford to spend on cellular phone service?
  3. What extras am I looking for? Texting? Voice Mail?

After figuring out exactly how you will use your phone, the next step is to review the different types of plans offered by Jitterbug.  Here is a rundown of the most popular plans now listed on their website:

  1. Simply 14 is the most basic plan offered by Jitterbug.  At just $14.95 per month, it gives users just 50 anytime airtime minutes per month. One good benefit of this plan, however, is that any unused minutes carryover  to the next month.  Not really a good plan for those who plan to talk a lot, it is a great option for those who simply need a cell phone for emergencies and occasional calls.
  2. The Simply 19 plans gives plan holders 100 free anytime airtime minutes per month; these too can be carried over for 60 days for future use. It costs $19.95 per month.
  3. The Simply 29 plan costs  just $29.95 per month and gives users 200 anytime minutes and 500 evening/weekend minutes.  While the anytime minutes can be used (and carried over from month to month), the weekend/evening minutes must be used or lost each month.  Evening rates begin at 7 pm and end at 6 am every Sunday-Thursday and weekend rates begin at 7 pm Friday and end at 6 am Monday morning.
  4. The Simply 39 plan works like the others, only it offers users 300 anytime minutes and 500 evening/weekend minutes per month.
  5. The Simply 49 Plan gives users 500 anytime minutes and 500 evening/weekend minutes for just $49.95.
  6. Simply 59 gives 700 anytime minutes and 500 evening/weekend minutes for $59.95.
  7. The Simplicity Plus Plan is the most comprehensive (as well as expensive) Jitterbug plan, offering users 1,000 anytime talk minutes and 500 evening/weekend minutes per month for a fee of $79.95.

In addition to the plans stated above, Jitterbug also provides customers with a shared plan, which allows them to add another phone to their plan for just $14.95.  The nice thing about the shared plan is that users can talk to one another for as long as they want absolutely free.  This is a great option for family members and close friends who spend a lot of time chatting but so not want to pay the high cost of a more detailed phone plan.
